Breast Augmentation Recovery

The day has finally arrived. You’ve picked out the perfect breast implants, had your pre-operative appointments, waved goodbye to your caretaker as they wheeled you into the operating room, and drifted off to sleep…Now what? Before you open those eyes, you may want to prepare yourself for what’s ahead. Remember, although breast augmentation may be a relatively common procedure it’s still a surgery.

When you wake up, you will be wrapped tightly in bandages and experiencing much discomfort and soreness. The anesthesia may make you nauseous, as well. Be sure you have someone there to help you in those first few days. You won’t want to move much, do much, or even talk much. You have lots of resting and recovering to do.

In a day or two, your doctor will remove your bandages. Don’t worry if you do not see the perfect bust line in the mirror! They will be high, hard, and swollen. You may even feel some “post-op blues” and depression. This is all perfectly normal and will subside in time. Your doctor may give you a special bra to keep your breasts down while healing, and will require you to wear a wireless bra for about six months. Don’t let anyone push or urge you to do more than you are capable of doing. Surround yourself with supportive people who will allow and encourage you to take it slow as you allow you body to heal. The more you rest and let your body work, the easier your recovery will be.

Be sure to attend all of your post-operative appointments and follow your doctor’s instructions. You can find this information at the before and after breast augmentation page. He may have you massage or manipulate your breasts to help them loosen up, or you may have a type of implant that does not take well to massage. In any case, your surgeon will know what’s best for you and your recovery.

Although your breast augmentation recovery may seem difficult, take it easy, relax and smile, knowing that recovery doesn’t last forever. Soon, you’ll have the results you’ve always wanted!
